Wanderers
The inaugural Wanderers Feast Day Cup final between South Coogee Wanderers FC and the red-and-white stripes of Barnestoneworth FC is just 6 days away.
I was fortunate enough to catch a glimpse of the opposition yesterday as they qualified for the final via a trial game. With some enthusiastic tackling, cool heads on the ball and creative passing I believe we are every chance of preserving the Wanderers impressive undefeated record in cup finals but it will be a tough game. Barnestoneworth were solid and played reasonably well to their game plan of retaining possession from the back, and the two strikers showed a clean pair of heels in beating defenders around the edge of the box. Having said that, I don't believe yesterday's defensive opposition was a match for the likes of SCW's defensive engine room - Camikaze, Cagey and Chamot.
Kickoff is still scheduled for 2pm sunday. Note that sunday is a car free day in centennial park, so you'll have to park outside and walk in. The pitch is immediately adjacent to where SCW played cricket last month, almost the dead centre of the park (just south over a small rise from our previous weekend games).
A few quick matters to attend to.
ONE
I need to confirm numbers. Here's what I have so far:
DEFINITELY IN
ShiLin, Cagey, Camikaze, Chamot, Sandinista, Garth, DJA, Randolph Mar, Barista, Nick Le Brit
MAYBE (some level of keeness expressed but no firm commitment yet)
Liamov, Lanky Dave, Playmaker, Hankers, El Pres
OUT
Bam Bam, Storrierenko
If you're in the "maybe" list and want to confirm a place in the line up please let me know. There's a few more people who I will ask to play this week depending on how many committed players we have. We need about 15 players to ensure we have enough to last out an 80 minute game; 11 players or 19 players is unfavourable.
TWO
Jerseys. Since the opposition is red and white, recommend we change to blue in accordance with FIFA 'away strip' rules. Can everyone bring a blue t-shirt? Light-to-medium blue preferred but all shades entertained.
THREE
Training. This wednesday, Ronald McDonald Stadium. Practice game kickoff at 6.45pm. Be there and run hard.
