Cagey Lecoge bibliography

Dear Wanderers & Cher Cagey.

Please find below information I found on google relating to Cagey’s exhaustive SCW career. Of course a few other sites came up like:

http://www.atics.fr/Englishweb/networks/AticServAsiav2003.htm

and

http://bonjorn.sc-eco.univ-nantes.fr/~argos/Annuaire.doc

but I think they must be for a different Cagey.

Adieu à un monsieur, à un défenseur et à un grand meteorologist.

For your information,

Balbo.

Cagey Lecoge

Cagey ‘Chipper’ Lecoge is a South Coogee Wanderers football defensive mid-fielder, arguably the best ever defender in South Coogee.

He was born in Paris in a family of coal industry workers. Still twelve years old in summer of 1985, he started to work in the coal mines of La Houve in Lorraine in eastern France. After what seemed like a lifetime at the longwall, in 2000 Cagey decided to give up Old Europe in disgust at the planned closure of all french coal mines, and made a new life in South Coogee.

Cagey played his entire career for the South Coogee Wanderers Football Club (SCWFC), from 2002 to almost 2005, winning the football championship of Coogee five times and the Communist Cup three times. Reflecting his reputation as a gentleman and for fair play, Cagey did not receive a single booking during his long career.

He also won a Newtown Jets rugby league championship as a fullback for his club after three disastrous trial-up attempts to get his place in the starting line-up of the SCW squad. Cagey's club team-mate, rival and mentor was DJ 'Push-Comes-To-Shove' Udon, the SCW whip, who had become famous for his turntable skills in the 2003 release of ‘The Summer Album’. It was DJ Udon who spotted the young frenchman and urged him to come along to SCW trials.

In 2002, Cagey debuted for the South Coogee team, and later went on to win 81 caps for South Coogee in both north-running and south-running squads. Always ready to give a piece of advice to his comrades, he even made the long trip to Canberra for the Fyshwick Fetish Finals in 2003 not only as a player but also as the defensive advisor and aide. In fact Cagey is probably one of the only players who has never missed a training session when doing duty for his beloved South Coogee outfit. Even on the days he was unwell, injured or the weather didn’t look too good he used to be present on a Wednesday night. In November 2004 he played his last match for SCWFC against many west-of-anzac-parade SCW south-running stars.

One of his best performances was the 2004 Full-Field battle when he appeared for SCW against the 'Rest of the World Barnestoneworth XI' at Queens Park and made a number of breathtaking tackles and consistently showed the opposition the sideline. Cagey is known all over the world as 'Chipper' for his distinctive lobbed or floated passes, and his uncanny ability to leave his studs in your shin. He was often feared by his opponents for these reasons.

For his outstanding service to the people and for his suburb he was awarded Order of Iainamoto (2004), the highest award in Coogee. Cagey's FIFA-endorsed testimonial match was held at Henson Park in Marrickville with 100,000 fans attending, and a galaxy of important people and superstars. A number of people rose from the dead in what was seen as show of support for Cagey. Guests included Gerard Depardieu, Joan of Arc, Jaques Chirac, Victor Hugo, Plastic Bertrand, Marie Curie, Arsene Wenger, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Frank Farina and Gough Whitlam. A gentleman to the core both on and off the field, it was a truly fitting farewell.

2004 FIFA polls placed Cagey in the "Century XI" team, and also named him 'World Defender of the Century' ahead of both Gary and Phillip Neville. FIFA intends to establish the Cagey Lecoge Award for the ‘Best Defender and Gentleman’ at the 2006 World Cup finals.
