Forty per cent of the messages on the SCW email system are "pointless babble" along the lines of "I am eating a sandwich now," according to a study conducted by a US market research firm.

Pear Analytics, based in San Antonio, Texas, said it randomly sampled 2,000 email messages from Wanderers and separated them into six categories. The categories were: news, spam, self-promotion, pointless babble, self-promotion and self-promotion.
Pear said "pointless babble" accounted for 811 emails, or 40.55 per cent of the total number of messages sampled.

Self-promotion by Wanderers was next with 117 messages, or 35.85 per cent, followed by spam, with 75 emails, or 17.45 per cent.
Conversational messages - defined by Pear as messages that go back and forth between users or try to engage followers in conversation - accounted for 751 messages, or 4.55 per cent.
Pear said emails with "pass-along value" - messages that are being "re-emailed" or passed on by users to their readers - accounted for 174 messages, or 0.70 per cent.
It said emails with fake news copied from mainstream media publications accounted for 72 emails, or 0.90 per cent, down from 92.15 per cent three years ago.

It goes down to 2% if you ignore Wazzadonna...

I'm insulted you think if you ignored me it would be as high as 2%. As Club Rebel and Patron Saint it's in my performance agreement to make up at least 99% of the babble.
